Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also a seasoned public speaker. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on gender representations in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and a prestigious feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular culture. Furthermore, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other the marginalized communities of people. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. She was not deterred from the attack, and actually, it just reinforced her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
